SUMMARY:☦️ Longinus the Centurion
LOCATION:Raleigh\, NC
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 10/16/2026\n\nSaints and Fea
 sts: Longinus the Centurion\; 2 Soldiers with Longinus\n\nStrict Fast\n\nE
pistle Reading: Philippians 3:8-19\nBrethren\, I count everything as loss
because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his s
ake I have suffered the loss of all things\, and count them as refuse\, in
order that I may gain Christ\, and be found in him\, not having a righteo
usness of my own\, based on law\, but that which is through faith in Chris
t\, the righteousness from God that depends on faith\; that I may know him
and the power of his resurrection\, and may share his sufferings\, becomi
ng like him in his death\, that if possible I may attain that resurrection
from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfec
t\; but I press on to make it my own\, because Christ Jesus has made me hi
s own. Brethren\, I do not consider that I have made it my own\; but one t
hing I do\, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies
ahead\, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of Go
d in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature be thus minded\; and if
in anything you are otherwise minded\, God will reveal that also to you. O
nly let us hold true to what we have attained. Brethren\, join in imitatin
g me\, and mark those who so live as you have an example in us. For many\,
of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears\, live as
enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction\, their god is th
e belly\, and they glory in their shame\, with minds set on earthly things
.\n\nGospel Reading: Matthew 27:33-54\nAt that time\, when the soldiers ca
me to a place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull)\, they of
fered him wine to drink\, mingled with gall\; but when he tasted it\, he w
ould not drink it. And when they had crucified him\, they divided his garm
ents among them by casting lots\; then they sat down and kept watch over h
im there. And over his head they put the charge against him\, which read\,
"This is Jesus the King of the Jews." Then two robbers were crucified wit
h him\, one on the right and one on the left. And those who passed by deri
ded him\, wagging their heads and saying\, "You who would destroy the temp
le and build it in three days\, save yourself! If you are the Son of God\,
come down from the cross." So also the chief priests\, with the scribes a
nd elders\, mocked him\, saying\, "He saved others\; he cannot save himsel
 f. He is the King of Israel\; let him come down now from the cross\, and w
e will believe in him. He trusts in God\; let God deliver him now\, if he
desires him\; for he said\, 'I am the Son of God.'" And the robbers who we
re crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.\n\nNow from the si
xth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And ab
out the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice\, "Eli\, Eli\, lama sabac
hthani?" that is\, "My God\, my God\, why have you forsaken me?" And some
of the bystanders hearing it said\, "This man is calling Elijah." And one
of them at once ran and took a sponge\, filled it with vinegar\, and put i
t on a reed\, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said\, "Wait\, l
et us see whether Elijah will come to save him." And Jesus cried again wit
h a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.\n\nAnd behold\, the curtain of t
he temple was torn in two\, from top to bottom\; and the earth shook\, and
the rocks were split\; the tombs also were opened\, and many bodies of th
e saints who had fallen asleep were raised\, and coming out of the tombs a
fter his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. W
hen the centurion and those who were with him\, keeping watch over Jesus\,
saw the earthquake and what took place\, they were filled with awe\, and
said\, "Truly this was the Son of God!"\n\nHosted by Holy Trinity Greek Or
